Help?

I was super excited about this game.
Pros: looks like a very faithful port of a classic adventure game. Sound is good, graphics are true to the original.
Cons: I was stuck way too long in the very first screen because theres absolutely no explanation of how the controls work.
The settings screen gives the option to turn "pad mode" on and off, but again, no description ofwhat that is/does.
